A brace is an orthodontic appliance that moves teeth and jaws into the correct position. There are fixed braces (brackets, lingual), removable appliances (for the growing jaw) and aligner trays (Invisalign). The choice depends on age, the clinical findings and your personal expectations.
The question “which brace is the right one?” has no blanket answer. It depends on anatomy, age, daily life and expectations. This page sets out the main options and names the typical indication for each.
Fixed brace
Metal or ceramic brackets are the most precise method — even for complex misalignments. They work 24/7, without requiring anything from the patient. Lingual brackets are bonded to the inner surface of the teeth and are invisible from the outside.
Removable brace
Guiding growth in children: often worn only overnight. Gentle on the full arch, ideal for early treatment between the ages of 7 and 12.
Aligners (Invisalign)
Transparent trays, changed every 1–2 weeks. Practically invisible, removable for eating and brushing. Minimum wear time 20–22 hours a day.

Removable from CHF 1,800, fixed from CHF 4,500, Invisalign from CHF 5,200. Where there is a medical indication, IV benefits may be claimed.
How long does treatment take?
On average 12–24 months for adults, 6–18 months for removable early treatment.
Do braces hurt?
