Provides a slower expansion of the upper jaw and palate when it is too narrow.
Straumann© palatal implant
The Swiss dental implant which provides maximum anchorage in the mouth: for correcting various teeth and jaw misalignments. Insertion and removal by experienced oral surgeon are painless and require only a few minutes.
Miniscrew / Minipin
Commonly used as an alternative treatment to the palatal implant.
Fixed Functional or “Herbst” appliance
If the lower jaw is set too far back in relation to the upper jaw, this device will work wonders. It is usually used to correct a misaligned jaw when the patient has almost finished growing (between the ages of 14 and 17 years old).
Lingual arch
This device is commonly used and connects two molars in the upper or lower dental arch in cases where the baby teeth are prematurely lost or when the lower teeth of a child are slightly crowded. It works to maintain length in the lower dental arch and enables new teeth to break through evenly.
Space maintainer
If a gap between teeth needs to be maintained for some length of time, we use a custom-made space maintainer which is produced off-site in the laboratory or directly by us in the practice. It is then positioned in the gap to prevent misaligned teeth.
Monoblock with Headgear
The Monoblock is used on the back of the lower jaw to encourage its forward growth and to inhibit the forward growth of the upper jaw. The ideal age for this therapy is pre-adolescence. Since it should be worn for at least 12 hours a day, it is usually worn by the patient at night and combined with some appropriate headgear.
Plates (Bite plates, Expansion plates, Retention plates etc.)
Ideal for minor adjustments in young patients in the front area of the mouth. Plates are also often used as a retention device after teeth extractions to prevent misalignment.
Retainer
This is a stabilising wire which is used at the end of each treatment, running either from canine tooth to canine tooth or across all the incisors. It is used to hold teeth in their new and improved position after surgery or any method of realigning teeth. If the retainer is too loose or becomes detached from the teeth, we must therefore correct this immediately so as to avoid any expensive post-treatment adjustments.
